The month of May

Mother's Day 2011

Alex took Nicole on the Fathers/Sons campout (I like to call it the Daddy Daughter campout)

Camping out in the living room. We made a fire and roasted marshmallows for s'mores.

Cinco de Mayo

It was just an ordinary day. We didn't have anything planned, and were just hanging out in the house all day because our front door was getting stain put on it. But when our painter had to leave to go pick some stuff up, we made a beeline for the party store and bought some decorations for a fiesta!

Tortilla making party

We hung up some streamers, and bought a piñata and some candy. We made some salsa and homemade tortillas for our taco dinner. The funniest part of the evening was when I took a picture of Alex and Nicole and they yelled "¡Olé!", Joel started crying. Apparently he wasn't digging our fiesta.

Eating dinner under our streamers

Nicole taking a swing at the piñata. She kept pulling the bandana up so she could see.

Auntie Beth

Alex's sister, Beth, came down from NY for a visit a couple of weeks ago. Nicole was sick, unfortunately, but she perked up towards the end of the visit. Beth brought her boyfriend, Kerlyn, and it was a lot of fun to have them down for the weekend.

Joel is 5 months!

Joel is now very mobile, rolling all around the place, and he's trying to figure those legs out and how they work. He loves his daddy and smiles like crazy when he sees him. Joel also thinks Nicole is just about the funniest person ever. He has found his toes and loves to play with them, and always has his hands in his mouth sucking on his fingers. It's hard to believe this cutie is already 5 months!

Lazy Sunday Afternoon

It was raining

so we hopped in the car and went to feed some ducks

Joel slept through it

Nicole LOVED it

She said the white duck was her favorite

This one was my favorite

Our House - the big reveal

We've been doing some major work on our almost 100 year-old home, and it is so exciting to see it all coming together. Our outside renovations started last summer when we decided to pull off some vinyl siding to see what was underneath. To our pleasant surprise, it was cedar shingles and they were in pretty good condition. It was exactly the look we were going for, and so began our project.

We hired one of Alex's young men to take off all of the siding, and then we hired a company to come and repair our slate roof, replace our gutters, and put some new cedar shingles up. We decided to replace the shingles on the whole front of the house because it was in the worst condition, and we wanted that to look the best.

We hired a renovation company to make the house look pretty - new trim, new doors, and fresh paint. We went with a sage green, white trim, and a red accent color on our porch. We are really happy with how it looks, and feel like our house is becoming "ours."
