Happy 'Versary to us!

Alex and I celebrated 6 years together on Saturday. 6 years! It's hard to believe we've been married for that long, yet at the same time it seems like such a short amount of time. Here are some highlights from the past six years:

- Buying our first car together (this is big in my mind because it was my dream car!)
- Traveling the world together (ok, so we've only done the Bahamas and Western Europe - but eventually we'll make it everywhere else!)
- Getting our MBAs together at the U of U
- Moving to Philly
- Buying a house
- Getting pregnant

Since it was our last anniversary without kids, I surprised Alex with a trip to Cape May, NJ. Cape May is this cute Victorian town on the Southern tip of NJ, surrounded by the Delaware Bay. The architecture there is beautiful, and it's got a nice small town feel. It was such a relaxing weekend, with lounging around on the beach, enjoying good food, reminiscing about the past, and talking about what the future holds for us. Here are some pics from our weekend:

Go Phillies!

Alex and I have been to two games this season, and I finally got a picture taken of us at the last game (thanks Amy)! There's something about going to a MLB game, eating hot dogs and peanuts, that makes me feel...just so...American!

Asian Day

In college, my roommates and I made up a holiday – Asian Day! To celebrate Asian day, Christa made me a card (which I still have), and we ordered rice with teriyaki sauce at the Teriyaki Stix and ate sitting on the ground around the coffee table – you can’t get more authentic than that! I was reminded of Asian Day when I looked back on what Alex and I did this past weekend…

On Saturday Alex and I woke up at the crack of dawn and drove down to Washington DC for a visit to the temple. We figure it’s the last time for a little while with the baby on her way. It just so happened that the Cherry Blossom Festival was going on downtown, so we jumped on the metro and went to the celebration. There were tons of people there, and we ate some “authentic” Japanese fare for lunch – tempura, pan fried noodles, chicken yakitori, and for dessert (my favorite) manju! We also got to enjoy the arts and crafts displays, and some Japanese dancers and drummers. After that we trekked on down to the Potomac to check out the cherry blossom trees, but were disappointed to find that there were no blooms left. Hopefully we’ll catch them next year.

That night we went to a Phillies game with some friends. The weather was absolutely perfect, and the Phillies beat the Cubs 7-1! And what better way to tie it into our Japanese weekend than by Alex declaring his favorite player on the Phillies as So Taguchi – hailing from Japan. :) It was a great day, but I was exhausted by the end of it!

Continuing with the Japanese themed weekend, we had some friends over and made them miso soup, gyoza (potstickers), and for dessert we had mochi ice cream. Yum!

Baby Shower

On April 2, I got showered with wonderful and generous baby gifts for my little girl. I had a combined baby shower with Natalie Tolley (who’s due with a girl the week before me), given by MaryAnn Eads, Stefanie Cross, and Sarah Reeder. I had such a great time and am so appreciative of everyone who came and the gifts they brought. It is still amazing to me how much stuff this little baby has accumulated, and she’s not even here yet! So thank you!

Tamar Griffitts makes these blankets for all of the new moms - isn't it so cute? I can't wait to wrap up my baby in it!
